  • Gulf States are not safe because of the USA

    The Gulf states complain that they are being hit by Iranian missiles. They believed that hosting US military bases would keep them safe, but are surprised to find that these bases do not serve to provide them with security at all — quite the contrary. They have simply forgotten what former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said: ‘It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal.’

    The ongoing war against Iran will certainly change the Middle East and US assets there.

    La decisione sul futuro dell’Iran spetta agli iraniani stessi, mentre io non ho voce in capitolo. In realtà mi si spezza  la voce; posso solo stupirmi di alcune dichiarazioni riportate dai media occidentali, in cui vengono citati emigranti iraniani, probabilmente selezionato tra quelli con la voce più forte, in favore dell’aggressione sionista e di un scià presunto, mentre le voci della stragrande maggioranza rimasta nel Paese si sentono sempre meno.

  • Anderen Demokratie predigen, aber selber…

    Derzeit aktiviert die Administration Trump alle Mittel, um die Midterm-Wahlen vom November 2026 entweder gar nicht stattfinden zu lassen oder aber nur so, dass er und seine Partei weiterhin die Mehrheit in beiden Parlamentskammern behalten. Ist die angeblich «älteste Demokratie» in Gefahr?

  • Freiheit kraft Invasion und Sanktionen?

    Überall dort, wo «der Westen» in den letzten Jahrzehnten einer nach Freiheit rufenden Bevölkerung (oder einer kleinen Minderheit, die sich dafür ausgegeben hat) nach Freiheit «zu Hilfe» geeilt ist, um das herrschende Regime zu stürzen, ging es den Menschen und ihrem Land danach meist noch schlechter. Ja, auch in jenen Fällen, in denen die Mehrheit schon zuvor allen Grund zu leiden hatte.

    There is growing momentum in the US Congress to impeach the President. Lawmakers would do better to impeach the system before it allows another figure like Trump to gain absolute power.

  • Greenland: whose security is at stake?

    The Trump administration claims that the security of the USA is at stake as long as it does not take possession of Greenland. If anything, Canada should feel insecure given its proximity to this very dangerous huge island, while the US government should be more concerned that Russia might reclaim Alaska, which Tsar Alexander II sold to the USA in 1867.

    It was not the Soviet Union that divided Germany after the war, but the United States. What a blessing a united but neutral Germany would have been for Europe!

  • Kuschen vor Zöllen oder handeln?

    In den 1990er Jahren gehörte ich zu den links-grünen Kritikern der geplanten Umwandlung des Allgemeine Zoll- und Handelsabkommens (GATT, seit 1948) in die Welthandelsorganisation (WTO, ab 1995). Wir befürchteten eine Zunahme der globalen Handelsströme und des von mächtigen Staaten subventionierten Wettbewerbs um tiefe Preise bei gleichzeitiger Verwässerung staatlicher Umwelt- und Sozialnormen. Müsste ich also glücklich sein darüber, dass die USA den Welthandel durch hohe Zölle erschwert? Nein.

  • What is the US looking for in Venezuela?

    The Trump administration claims it is conducting a campaign against drug trafficking from Venezuela [1]. We know that this is not a valid reason for either for the main sources of drugs sold in the United States or for deploying 10,000 troops and the largest aircraft carrier to the Caribbean.

    In meiner Nachbarstadt Trieste marschieren am 3. November die (gar nicht so Neo-) Faschisten von CasaPound auf; ihr Name bezieht sich auf den USamerikanischen «Dichter» Ezra Pound, der die zweite Hälfte seines Lebens in Italien verbrachte und sich als glühender Propagandist für Mussolini zweifelhaften Ruhm erwarb.
